Compress a photo to the size you need
Pick the maximum file size and get the photo at the best quality that fits.
Automatic saves JPG (WebP stays WebP). EXIF data (GPS location, camera, date) is removed and the photo is saved upright.
Files never leave your device
How to do it
- Choose one or more photos, or drag them into the box.
- Pick the maximum size: 100 KB, 200 KB, 500 KB, 1 MB, 2 MB or your own.
- Press "Compress". You see the size before and after and a preview; download the photo, or all of them as a ZIP.
Tips
- JPG quality goes down first; only when that is not enough does the photo get fewer pixels. It is never enlarged.
- Does the form also ask for a size in pixels? Set it first with Resize, then compress.
- In automatic mode PNG and HEIC photos are saved as JPG, which is far lighter. If you need a transparent background, choose WebP or PNG.
Questions
Are my photos uploaded anywhere?
No. Your browser compresses the photos on your own device. Nothing is sent to a server, so the tool even works offline once the page has loaded.
Why is the photo a little smaller than the size I picked?
We look for the best quality that fits under the limit and never go over it. 1 KB counts as 1000 bytes here, so the photo passes even where a site counts 1 KB as 1024 bytes.
What happens to GPS location and camera data?
It is always removed. The new photo carries no EXIF data: no location, no phone model, no date. It is saved upright, the way your phone shows it.
Does it work with iPhone HEIC photos?
It depends on the browser. Safari on iPhone and Mac usually opens them; Chrome and Firefox on Windows do not, and you will be told so. When you pick a photo from the gallery, an iPhone usually hands it over as JPG anyway.
Can I compress many photos at once?
Yes. Choose them all together: each one ends up under the limit and you download them together as a ZIP.
Is it really free?
Yes. No sign-up, no watermark and no limit on the number of photos.
